Emotional Freedom Techniques
EFT is an effective and fast way to manage, diminish and delete negative emotions, stress and fear.
EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture without needles. Instead, you stimulate well established energy meridian points on your body by tapping on them with your fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and is portable so you can do it anywhere.
This common sense approach draws its power from time-honored Eastern discoveries that have been around for over 5,000 years and Albert Einstein, who told us back in the 1920′s that everything (including our bodies) is composed of energy.
These ideas have been largely ignored by Western Healing Practices but EFT can work where nothing else does.
Based on discoveries regarding the body’s subtle energies, Emotional Freedom Techniques has been reported successful in thousands of cases. It applies to a wide variety of emotional, health and performance issues and it often works where nothing else will.
How to do EFT
EFT is based on the principles of Acupuncture. You stimulate well-known (and extensively studied) acupuncture points by tapping on them with your fingers while speaking a reminder phrase about the subject upon which you want to improve. This procedure is strange and will seem silly. But it works.
I use a very effective abbreviated form of EFT that uses only 8 tapping points. They are:
1) Beginning of the eyebrow (middle side)
2) Outside of the eye (on the bony part of the eye socket)
3) Under the eye
4) Under the nose
5) The chin
6) Beginning of the collarbone (middle of the body side)
7) Under the arm (on the side of the body several inches below your arm pit)
8- Karate chop point (on the outside of your hand- that you would use to deliver a Karate chop)
First though, one must do a “set-up” to begin the procedure. To do this you find the sore spot on either side of your chest, usually several inches below the collarbone. Rub the spot while repeating the phrase about what you want to work on. It might be something like “even though I have this fear of snakes, I deeply love and accept myself”. Do this setup 3 times.
Next, mentally examine the fear, emotion or ailment that you wish to address. Rate your fear, pain etc. on a scale of 1 to 10. After that, you begin to tap. Tap on each point while saying “this fear of snakes”, next point..tap tap tap, this fear of snakes, etc. all the way around the points.
After the first round you will do a procedure called the 9-gamut procedure. You do not need to do this every time you tap, but it is good to do during the first round at least, and perhaps more regularly if you are not making the progress you want in the tapping without it. The 9-gamut can hasten your progress with EFT. The 9-gamut is the most strange looking of all. It is a series of brain stimulating exercises that fine-tune the brain and make it more receptive to the rest of EFT.
While tapping the “gamut point” (on the back of either hand ½ inch down from the knuckles of the hand between the little finger and the ring finger) do the following:
Keeping your head still:
1)close your eyes
2)open your eyes
3) eyes look down to the right
4) eyes look down to the left
5) roll your eyes all the way around in one direction
6) roll your eyes all the way around in the other direction
7) Hum 2 seconds of any song (happy birthday is a fine choice)
8- count to 5 rapidly
9) hum for 2 seconds again
Now you will return to another round of tapping. That’s it. It sounds strange, it looks even stranger. But it works. In subsequent rounds of tapping you will add the word “remaining” to your reminder phrase. So in this case the phrase will now be “this remaining fear of snakes”. Pay attention to your numerical rating and keep at it until you reduce it to a zero or a one.
EFT is useful for nearly everything. It is a discovery and a process. You may have to do it 10 or 20 times a day. But you will find, if you stick with it, that you get results, sometimes very quickly! There is a lot more to know and understand about EFT, but this can serve as an introduction to the basic principles of how and why to use it. Energy techniques and energy medicine are very powerful, even if not well understood.
